Roll, the sweet goodness, is an original Slovenian pastry and speciality.
In "Slava vojvodine kranjske" it is mentioned by Janez Vajkard Valvasor, which probably means that he himself used to treat himself to it. This pastry is known for it aesthetic form and it always represents a celebration of some kind. The rolls we know today are only evolved versions of the rolls from old days, meaning pastries made from dough with different stuffing after which the rolls get their names.
